January 2019 To Do List. — A TO ZA’ATAR

January 2019 To Do List.

January 2019 To Do List.

This to-do list is one of the important ones, right?  Nothing sets the tone like the first goals list of 2019 (which I have procrastinated to the late hours of 2018, for the record).

  • More Instagram posts with my dumb face.  Although it always feels like lame self-promotion (and I have a lot of secondhand embarrassment for others), I realize that A to Za’atar is me, and as posts with My Dumb Face ® do good or better than many of my other ones, that I should make an effort to better connect Courtney Brandt with all that food.  Sigh.  Let’s not even get started on direct address on Instastories, which is the other part of this goal.
  • Stop giving a fuck (really).  You would think after a year or two, I would realize that comparison will get me nowhere.  Other people are going to do their thing, and that’s great for them.  Other people are going to be invited to things that I’m not going to be invited to.  It might not make sense to me, but I don’t have control over those things.  Furthermore, if I want to stay in and focus on my health and wellness goals, then that’s fine too.  Basically, more FOMO and less JOMO, ya dig?
  • Continue exercising (with or without pooch).  With the introduction of Phoebe the foster dog, my steps per day have significantly increased, and that’s a great thing.  While I don’t always love the snuffling at 6AM, or a dog on the rag (not her fault), there is still a lot of motivation to get me out of the house at least three times a day.
  • Finish the damn book. Unrelated to food writing, but still necessary for January, I’m so close to finishing a halfway readable draft of my Louvre heist book, Under the Rain of Light.  If I can’t do it in the next 31 days, I’m not really sure if it can ever be done.
  • Spend less time on social media.  Perhaps a bit counterintuitive given I want to, of course, grow my social media, but I think I’ve been putting my energy in the wrong places (*coughInstagram*cough).  Fortunately, with all the tracking devices now, it is much easier to understand how much time I’m spending online – even on specific apps.  If I look for the past week, I’m rocking 50 minutes a day on Instagram, which is better than some weeks, but still feels like far too long!
  • Figure out a holiday or two.  With no official travel on the books for 2019, it all seems a bit strange to the Type A/planner in me.  There are a lot of personal moving pieces in 2019, which are all in the ether at the moment (not to mention I still need to get home and get my driver’s license renewed – !).  So, there’s some places I’d like to go, or go back to, but with too many miles still tied up on the airline that shall not be named, we’re sticking to discount airlines.
  • Get back to Keto.  December was essentially ALL about the carbs, and I can definitely tell a difference.  It all comes down to the shopping.  When there are carbs in the house, guess what?  I will eat them.  Keto was working great when I stuck to it, so it’s time to have a look at Pinterest and get serious once again.

What’s on your January 2019 (or entire 2019) to do list?  How will you be starting the year?
