Lucky Voice = Instant Classic. — A TO ZA’ATAR

Lucky Voice = Instant Classic.

Lucky Voice = Instant Classic.

Dearest reader, let’s be honest for a moment.  Although I don’t get the chance to often do it, I love karaoke.  Not in an ironic way.  In a completely ‘this is the most fun thing ever’ way.  In a ‘hey what do you want to do any night of the week’ sort of way.  Thus, when I learned friends were involved with the recently opened Lucky Voice (located in the Grand Millennium, Al Barsha, er, Barsha Heights?), my interest was definitely piqued.  With the closure of my beloved Harry Ghatto’s (sobs), I needed a new, reliable place to sing.

I can now assure you that Lucky Voice delivers exactly that (and without the many annoying hassles of HG’s).  What was going to be an hour quickly turned into three and one of my favorite nights out in the recent past.  While there was a live band playing the hits, we ultimately decided to use one of the completely sound proofed rooms and didn’t look back.

We sounded *just* like Taytay.

Awesome point #1: Easy to use everything.

Upon entering one of the individual pods, there is a state of the art screen where you simply type in what song or artist you are looking for and touch the screen (a Sing Station) when you find the song you like.  You can queue songs, change the volume, and genuinely personalize the experience as you prefer.  Even after a few signature cocktails, the system was still simple to use.

Awesome point #2: Fantastic service.

Rihanna (yes, like the singer) took great care of us into the wee hours of the morning (as did everyone we interacted with).  However, if you’re more anti-social and for whatever reason don’t like your karaoke experience being interrupted, there are mixers and a mini bar inside the room, and a screen where you can place drink and bar orders directly (!).  The party never has to stop.

Awesome point #3: Great playlists.

We went for new stuff, old stuff and just about everything in between.  My only suggestion?  Not enough Weezer or Offspring.

Awesome point #4: A+ layout and design.

Whereas Harry Ghatto’s was basically a big awkward room, Lucky Voice gets things right — combining the perks of a private room with the standards of a club (including a stage, lots of seating, and a clean, modern bathroom), there is the right experience for everyone (and no having to scrawl your name on a piece of paper only to have the bartender lose it).  From our room, we could see the entire crowd and still sing our hearts out (with no one able to hear us).  Had we felt more social, we could’ve grabbed a drink at the bar.  I also love how the private pods come with some fancy dress and party gear (perfect for pictures).

The view from inside the booth.

Awesome point #5: Completely affordable.

The cost for a private pod is AED150 for two hours (per person), but money spent on food and drinks goes towards the total (which is more or less what you would spend in two hours anyway).  Plus, there are great happy hour deals and a ladies night and they are in the Entertainer.

Awesome point #6: Above average menu.

Did I mention the menu has tons of options (WITH PORK)?  Yes, I know the foodie gets a wrist slap for not trying things off the menu during my visit, but we were too well looked after from dinner to even consider food.  However, I did have a peek and for my next visit will definitely bring my appetite (pulled pork tacos, I’m coming for you!).

Overall, this is a great spot for birthdays, post-brunch, or just a random Wednesday night.  Highly recommended.

Have you gone to Lucky Voice yet?  What’s your favorite song to sing at karaoke?
giphy-1A to Za’atar was a guest of Lucky Voice.  Opinions are my own, just ask my husband.
