It was a very strange week for many reasons. Two people approached me for work, and didn’t seem to be able to understand the concept of ‘no.’ For the big company (and the individual), I knew I wasn’t a good fit for the requested work, but both parties REALLY didn’t seem to understand the idea that I was (politely, and professionally) turning them down. I have a feeling that a third and even fourth ‘no’ is coming up soon. Apologies for the vague post, but it’s more a reminder that even in a global crisis, I think it’s important to stick to one’s guns. However, for the two ‘no’s,’ I did say yes to this project, which I’m very much looking forward to being a part of.
- Basically, loved the title, ‘eat this ugly slop.’
- Making MRE’s look Michelin.
- More love for the hardest working appliance in our kitchen (the air fryer).
- Because it’s summer, here’s a definitive comparison of making lemonade.
- Timely for me today: how to wear a mask in a restaurant. (And this, what it’s like to dine out again might be a post I want to emulate).
- Happy for BOCA.
- Uh, good luck with that, Maldives.
- Excellent reading (or listening) on Alinea’s pivot in all of this.
- On a more serious note, struggling with what is going on at home. So, here is some reading. I also donated here and would encourage you to do donate to this or similar.
Other than the US continuing to be an absolute garbage country (just an added fun stress on top of everything), there is some good news. We’re fostering a dog! I realize I’m a bit late, but I only was able to go back to K9 last week, and on Thursday, Poppy came home for some socializing. She’s a good girl, if a bit scared (of everything).
Furthermore, we’re going to try (!) a restaurant — for lunch (Scalini, who was kind enough to invite me), so we can drive ourselves. I’m doing this mainly because I’m speaking on a panel (Arabian Travel Market — goals!), and would like to speak from a place of experience. It’s our first meal outside the house since my (rather lame 40th) birthday, March 17th. Otherwise, it’s dog walks and getting back on my regular schedule. The Eid week certainly messed with my diet, exercise, and word count.
Be well!
