In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past ten or more years, you might not have heard of Magnolia Bakery, a transplant from New York and one of the originators of the cupcake frenzy that took place at the end of the aughts. I assume the fad is over, but Magnolia remains standing, and with good reason. If you are in the mood for anything luxuriously sweet and beautifully presented (honestly, just try and walk away from the frosting, I dare you), then Magnolia Bakery is a sure bet to satisfy your sweet tooth. The menu is fairly standard and straightforward (with the addition of specialty cakes run monthly), but I think everyone has their favorites. Personally, the blend of perfectly proportioned pudding and banana of the well known and much loved Banana Pudding (a very reasonable AED25 for 340 grams) is my absolute fave. Although it comes in three different servings sizes, I have yet to be able to order the smallest size.
While visiting, I had a moment to chat with Cheryl, the manager, who had nothing but pride in what she and her team were serving. Everything is cooked from scratch, and I think it shows in the quality.
Cakes are available to personalize, and whether you enjoy your cupcake on the spot, or take it home in the branded white box, Magnolia Bakery delivers on all levels.
Would I go back? Y’all, this venue is at the top of the list for any cheat day/#treatyoself scenario. Essentially, if you’re looking for a way to brighten anyone’s day, simply purchase a dozen (or half dozen) of whatever confection is your favorite and share with others. Suitable for the office. Any party. A Wednesday. Honestly, you can keep your Freakshakes. Give me a classic red velvet cupcake perfectly frosted any day of the week. Also, I had no idea that the other Magnolia Bakery locations serve a larger, more traditional cafe style menu (which I’m definitely interested in checking out).
