Leon’s Full Service: Perfect (and kid friendly) lunch spot.

Leon’s Full Service: Perfect (and kid friendly) lunch spot.

After participating in an awesome scavenger hunt (no, seriously, it was a blast and I may have to write up an additional review), Hubs, the Niece and Nephew (ages 11 and 13, respectively) and I were ready for something to eat (and a cool place to sit).  As Decatur has plenty to offer, I was looking for a kid-friendly spot that didn’t have a wait.  We had passed Leon’s Full Service during our search for clues, and doubling back, it seemed to fit the bill.  We decided to sit outside (voted ‘very cool’ for the misters that were set up) and were promptly greeted by our waiter.  The name of the restaurant, in case you were wondering, takes a cue from both the filling station the venue used to be as well as the alcohol selection.

Although the truly extensive list of spirits, wine and beer were (loudly) calling my name, I decided to set a good example for the next generation and ordered a Diet Coke.  With full appetites from our excursion, we were ready to order!  I was the odd woman out with my order of pork and grilled peach sandwich (with watercress, goat cheese in a hoagie roll — one of the specials of the day), while the remainder of the table was content with hamburgers (painted hills beef, paprika, gruyere, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, black pepper mayo, frites).  Not just content with ketchup, we were also able to choose from a variety of sauces to accompany our frites — I found the garlic mayo to be all kinds of delicious.  Given the range of the remainder of the menu, I’m not entirely certain we gave this restaurant its due in sampling the dishes, however, should a venue be able to stand on its own based on whatever dish you try, right?  Fortunately, the burgers quickly disappeared and I loved the pairing of the pulled pork (tender, juicy and with the right amount of barbecue) with the sweetness of the grilled peach (when in the South, eh?), but thought the goat cheese was an interesting (and potentially unnecessary) addition.

Do you share a deep love of frites as I do?

The ‘before’ shot (there is no ‘after’ shot).

I could easily see going back to this venue, and the same friends we met to dine at Kimball House with commented it was a favorite place to spend happy hour.  And next time we’ll play Bocce ball!

Bonus tip — leave room and head around the corner to Butter & Cream for a scoop after your meal (we did and it was the hit of the day).
