Le Sirenuse Champagne & Oyster Bar: A tradition that lives up to the hype.

Le Sirenuse Champagne & Oyster Bar: A tradition that lives up to the hype.

The Amalfi Coast is a location synonymous with luxury and sophistication, and perhaps no property is more sought after than that of Le Sirenuse, the iconic hotel in picture perfect Positano.  While our original intention was to enjoy a pre-dinner drink at Franco’s Bar (technically a spill over watering hole from Le Sireneuse), we were just a few days early for the season to have officially started (and thus found ourselves staring sadly into a locked patio).  Fortunately, the Champagne and Oyster Bar at La Sirenuse was less than a block away (and on the same stunning side of the street).  Would we mind having a sundowner there?  Well, of course not!

The drinks menu is fairly extensive, and after a lot of talk of Espresso Martinis and Bellinis, the rest of the table ordered exactly that, while I was happy with my Lemon Drop Martini.  Now, having traveled to the St. Regis Maldives recently, I’m not a stranger to resort pricing, however, EUR20 for a relatively small amount of alcohol is a bit cheeky, even for the venue.  Of course, the market will certainly be happy to pay this, and every table was full within minutes.  Your EUR20 drink does also buy you a few snacks (including amazing olives and delicious crisps, along with relatively attentive service), so perhaps it’s really about sitting back and enjoying the sunset with friends in one of the more picturesque locations in the world.  (And yes, there are champagne and oysters, should you be so inclined).

My biggest tip?  Either make a reservation or plan to be at either location exactly at 6 PM.  Spots fill up VERY quickly (even in the shoulder season).  Of course, we managed to get our group of 7 in by mentioning we would be leaving at a specific time…

Would I go back?  If you’re going to overpay for a drink, you might as well do it here.  🙂

Do you have a favorite place to grab drinks on holiday?  Or a tourist location that lives up to tradition?
