In my years living in Abu Dhabi, I visited Jumeirah Etihad Towers on a number of occasions for brunch or dinner or drinks, but never had the chance to stay over at this popular property. Thus, when I saw an incredible menu come across my inbox (yes, I often think first with my stomach), I asked if the hotel might be kind enough to extend me a stay while I dined at the restaurant with the amazing menu. Imagine my delight when they agreed!
In my typical fashion, I think it’s easiest to break down my visit into an easy to reference list. Should you want to know more about room types or other details for the property, there is plenty of information out there, but basically, this was my experience.
Pros
- So much choice! As a foodie, there are a ton of outlets to choose from, without ever having to leave the Towers. Here are a few of my favorites:
- Toro Toro – although a third party venue, there’s still a fantastic menu to try. In fact, I’m probably overdue for a return visit.
- Tori No Su – what a winner! This little gem somehow went under the radar for me for YEARS, and I feel terrible for having missed out on such an incredible experience. I’ll be reviewing the restaurant in a separate post, but suffice to say, if you’re looking for a new place to go, please give the Chef’s Omakase a try (or really, anything on the menu). My guest and I were both well impressed.
- Observation Deck at 300. There are very few places in the city which offer up such a great combo of an excellent tea service + amazing views. While I find the fit out just a bit dated, the fresh treats and wonderful glasses of bubbly on offer make this an easy destination to visit. My suggestion? Plan on dressing up (even if most of the guests don’t). Make your visit an occasion.
- Ray’s Grill. Another great spot for drinks and food, and, much like the Observation Deck, plenty of views.
- That skyline. Really, there are very places in the capital where one can sit in a luxurious bathtub and have views of the spectacular city view of Abu Dhabi.
- The Hollywood Connection. As a fan of the Fast and Furious series, I liked staying in a place with a connection to such a fun scene in one of the films. It’s definitely worth a watch before booking a room.
- That Jumeirah hospitality. Every person I interacted with (no matter which level of staff) was always pleasant and professional.
- Cool pool. There are several pools in this area of town, but few have the vibe that Etihad Towers always seems to possess.
Cons
- Could be just me, but things felt just a bit dated. I’d love to see a refurbish of both the lobby, as well as the Observation Deck. Also, while I didn’t find the rooms particularly small, there are larger options in the city.
- While I loved the pool, there’s something about visiting Abu Dhabi where I sometimes want beach access. The Emirates Palace across the street or any of the Saadiyat properties all offer both the beach and a pool. So, it really depends on the kind of vacation you’re looking for.
Would I stay at Jumeirah Etihad Towers again? I think the Edition still has my heart in Abu Dhabi, but for a city hotel, Etihad Towers has plenty to offer.
