Welcome To Miami: What You Should Know Before You Visit.

Today we welcome a collaborative post from a talented contributor.  Enjoy, C.

If you’re soon to be visiting Miami, you’re probably super excited for this adventure.  However, you shouldn’t just show up to Miami without knowing a few crucial things first.  Below, we’ll talk about what you should know before you arrive so you can have the very best time. Enjoy!

If You’re Going Out – Go Out Late

Many people visit Miami for the nightlife, but it’s important to note that many clubs don’t open till after midnight.  If you’re there before that, there certainly won’t be much of a crowd or an atmosphere.  DJs often don’t go on till 3 am, so make sure you have an afternoon siesta and ensure you’re ready to stay up until the early hours.

Don’t Be Fooled By the Tiny Coffees

The coffees are tiny but mighty.  You might not think one is enough for the seasoned caffeine drinker that you are, but you’ll be surprised.  If you’re not a caffeine drinker, have half.

The Sun Is Fierce

Wear sunscreen everywhere unless you want to look like a tomato in every picture you take.  You will get burned, sore, and annoyed with your past self.  Always apply it to your face and anywhere else on show.

Don’t Worry If You Can’t Speak Spanish

Miami is the Latin capital of America, and some places will exclusively speak Spanish.  Don’t panic though – they are used to people using hand gestures to communicate with them.

Think Twice Before Going Out To Eat At Ocean Drive

Ocean drive food is high price and low quality.  Eat elsewhere.  It’s excellent for its sights, people watching and beaches, though, so if that’s what you’re after, go ahead!

See Some Amazing Art Work For Free

The great thing about Miami is that you’re bound to be able to find some awesome artwork for free.  Head to Wynwood Walls to check out some world-class murals.  Plus, on the second Saturday of the month, Miami’s Pérez Art Museum lets everyone in for free.

Know What To Expect Greetings-wise

Miami residents often like to get up close and personal when meeting somebody.  Don’t be taken aback if you get a few hugs and kisses on the cheek!

Book Some Fun Stuff Before You Travel

Booking some fun stuff before you travel will give you an idea of the sort of things you’re going to do before you arrive and get overwhelmed.  Don’t pack your itinerary, but make sure you have a few things to look forward to.  A Rental Boat Miami might be a lot of fun if you have a larger group, for example.

Check Before You Tip

It isn’t uncommon for some places to add on 15-18% tip. Always check – it isn’t even unheard of for venues to add on 40%.

Don’t Get Dragged Into A Place Off The Sidewalk

If somebody is trying to talk you into going somewhere, handing you flyers on the sidewalk, it’s probably a good idea to skip it!

Are you ready for your visit to Miami?  What are you most looking forward to seeing?
