It’s all in the details; why Hōseki is one of my top dining experiences in the UAE.

After my enjoyable visit to the Yacht Club earlier in the year, I was more than excited to return to Bulgari. In fact, I enjoy the hotel so much, I arrived early, just so I could do a bit of people watching in the luxe lobby. Grant me this tendency, as I wrote a novel set at a fictional hotel (available for purchase here). At the designated time of my reservation, I was shown to the dedicated lift to Hōseki (Japanese for ‘jewel,’ in case you were wondering) and up to the fourth floor I was whisked. Greeted warmly by name, one of the traditionally attired servers escorted me to the dining room, while explaining the history of the chef. Entering through the traditional noren, the interior of the restaurant matches the overall Bulgari aesthetic, done in cool black marble, with large windows overlooking the private beach and skyline of Dubai. Carnival by Tresind: Colorful Creativity Abounds.

Carnival by Tresind has been popping up on my Instagram feed since it opened in August, and I was desperately curious to check it out. When Zoe (of Table No 7) secured an invite and asked me to join, I happily agreed. While I enjoyed my experience at the sister restaurant, Tresind, judging against other venues I’ve reviewed since then, all I can do is say (once again) how incredibly crowded the modern Indian gastronomic scene in Dubai is. Somehow, in this group, everyone has their own magic spin on the cuisine. While I realize I might start to sound repetitive, it’s incredible how these chefs seem to push each other to new heights in creativity. My Top 3 Dishes of August 2016!

I thought I would try this as a monthly feature, even if it’s a few days late for August 2016. So, August was probably my busiest month of the year for food. I ate A LOT (not that I’m complaining) and wanted to highlight my favorite and most memorable dishes of the month. Mostly, this will be a place to think back and consider all I tasted and tried, then take a moment to sort out which really stayed with me (and that I would go back for). In no particular order: Seafood Risotto, Todd English’s Olives Firecracker Roses, Wakame Seared Black Cod, Sea Fu (and I had 4 different versions of Black Cod in the month!) The Clinton Street breakfast, vegetarian Maki roll from Coya, and churros from Laluz all almost made the cut, but the dishes listed above are all in a category unto themselves. With a trip to…
