Orchard City Kitchen: Bay Area Bib Gourmand. — A TO ZA’ATAR

Orchard City Kitchen: Bay Area Bib Gourmand.

Orchard City Kitchen: Bay Area Bib Gourmand.

With limited time in South Bay and a calendar not on my side, I looked long and hard at Google Maps, before deciding on Bib Gourmand recognized Orchard City Kitchen.  Creative cocktails?  Yes.  Small plates for a solo diner?  Also, yes!  No reservation needed?  I think you can see a pattern here.

The restaurant was bustling, with seating both outside and inside, as well as a bar area.  I took a seat near the open plan kitchen.  I do love American service staff – there’s a level of friendliness and banter that is so rarely found in the UAE.  After reviewing the menu, I had some questions, which my server was easily and knowledgeably able to answer, and I was able to order the perfect amount of food for one diner (a trip of #foreveralone).

So, what did I order?  Well, it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t order Steak Tartare, USD$12.75, so I did exactly that.  For USD$12.75, everything felt where it was supposed to be.  I would mention the portion is a bit small for two people but perfect for me.  Although I strongly debated ordering KFC (Korean Fried Chicken), in the end, I decided on the Duck potstickers, USD$16.75 (and chose wisely).  In my opinion, the potstickers were elevated by the amount of greens that were served with them (hurrah for cilantro and fresh sugar snap peas).  Finally, because I am a Southern Girl, I thought that my life wouldn’t be complete without the Triple B.  That’s Bacon, Biscuits, and Butter, USD$8.  You know what?  I was right!  And for now, the three B’s are a solid contender for one of my best dishes of the month (surprising in a month full of a lot of high-end restaurants).

To drink, although many of the cocktails looked good, I decided on the O.G. Milk Punch, USD$15.  The price is a bit high, but the serving size is generous.  While I think my favorite punch of the year was found in Maine, this one was mild and worth ordering again.  And, of course, because the States are the States, I had unlimited free local water.

Does Orchard City Kitchen live up to its Bib Gourmand distinction?  Yes, I think so.  The menu has originality in recognizable dishes.  Prices are fair, and the atmosphere is fun.

Would I go back to Orchard City Kitchen?  In a heartbeat!

Who is Orchard City Kitchen best for?  Anyone looking for a casual, but filling and original night out.

Many thanks to Visit California for their support of me in the state.
