If you've been following this blog for any length of time, you might have noticed the trend that Hubs always orders an Old Fashioned when we dine out. This is an old school cocktail that any bar worth their salt should be able to produce -- quickly and in a relatively straightforward manner. It's an easy drink to compare and gives a quick insight to what sort of team is preparing your drinks. So, until Mezcal is easier to find in the UAE, I think this will be the drink he sticks with.
Sayeth Wikipedia:
The Old Fashioned is a cocktail made by muddling sugar with bitters, then adding alcohol, such as whiskey or brandy, and a twist of citrus rind. It is traditionally served in a short, round, 8–12 US fl oz (240–350 ml) tumbler-like glass, which is called an Old Fashioned glass, named after the drink.
There you have it -- not much to mess up, is there? While I could make another list of moderate to terrible Old Fashioneds in Dubai, let's keep things on the up and up, shall we?
In order:
In the spirit of Hubs (and all his tagging along to most of these restaurants, even when he would really rather not), while I wouldn't usually do this, November is an important month at our house. Hubs always participates in Movember, and I would be delighted if you contributed to his fund, which helps raise awareness for men's health (among other things).
And, of course, please let us know if there are any Old Fashioneds we should know about!
