Well, that was certainly a week!  Between two conferences with timing issues, meetings, a visit to Dubai Eye, an event in the Caeser’s presidential suite, running my first 5k in 20 years, and dinner this evening at Armani, I’m certainly making the rounds.  Throw in some random goodies this week (Moishi, SugarMoo, and a custom robe from Versace – !), and my head was basically spinning. Please buy me something from this range. Who actually owns a recipe — the chef or the restaurant? Heston saying some problematic things about women in the kitchen.  (Not a good week for white dudes — I’m looking at you, 50 Worlds Best Bars). Not a good week for white dudes and women, then — I’m looking at you, 50 Worlds Best Bars. What do the fine folk at Bon Appetit snack on at work? Did you catch me on the radio this week?…

Another weirdly busy week (not that I’m complaining)!  I was the mistress of ceremonies for my first official event, went to a very strange Italian meal, got caught up on many of my reviews, and did my best to prepare for presentations and panels coming up in October.  I also have no idea when I’m ever going to get back to my poor manuscript… Might be the cutest little video (featuring food). Do you need a blanket when you’re dining out?  (You aren’t alone). Your guide to salt. How movie theaters evolved to become restaurants. Learning lessons from charging for chips and salsa. Why can’t I just say ‘tasty?’  A further look at being a food writer. Is some food more ‘authentic’ than other foods? Do you read menus before visiting a restaurant?  (Spoiler alert: I always do!) This weekend sees me at Roberto’s for brunch (I’ve heard good things),…

Another unexpectedly busy week – in the best possible way.  However, tuning down a trip to San Sebastian might be one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever had to make. This author tries to pull off the ubiquitous ‘cheers’ (something I’ve been saying for years). Air Italy’s sleek F&B designs. Television and movie related cookbooks. For fans of raw dishes, the difference between crudo, sashimi, tartare, and carpaccio (as I regularly order all of these, this was interesting!). On consideration of titles in hotels.  With different last names, it’s fairly rare that hotels get Hubs’ and I’s names correct. World’s best food dishes. As if we needed another reason to love KitKat. We’re going to Marina Social’s new brunch on Friday (it’s been a while since we’ve brunched, but the next THREE weekends are committed to brunch, pray for my liver), and I’m going to a clothes swap with…

Something was in the water this week!  Lots of opportunities coming up, and I had a few interesting meals — The Butcher for burgers, grasshoppers and karaoke with the managing director of Mango Tree, and finally getting over to review Reif Japanese Kushiyaki.  This weekend we’re going to the Edition Abu Dhabi to meet Tom Aikens at the Oak Room, and then I’ll give my Food for Thought presentation on Saturday.  I did even get to the gym most of the week, and recorded a voice-over for the radio. Bless us, O Instagram (worth reading). Some more praise for the ‘St. Louis bagel.’ A weirdly soothing series of videos recreating anime cooking in real-time. Food brands helping the fight against hunger. Have you heard of moon cheese? (I want to try some!) Apple cider prosecco spritz. Restaurant Day in Helsinki sounds super fun. Next week I have plans to go…

A week where I didn’t really get the things done that I needed to get done, because I didn’t have the motivation to do so.  Also, we have a foster dog.  Also, we had no working water on Sunday.  At least I made it to the gym every day! I had no idea this was a thing…why Indian Americans love Taco Bell. Yay for this: deaf couple opens pizzeria with all deaf employees. You will never be the same after watching this video. On the topic of food on a stick being American. 10/10 wish I had the money to buy this whiskey card series. An excellent understanding of banning certain words in food writing. I can’t stop watching this animation about one of my favorite fast-food orders. This weekend is a proper chill with the foster dog.  I’m hoping to get caught up on some editing, because next week…

We’re enjoying a weekend at the newly opened Waldorf Astoria DIFC.  This afternoon will also involve a ton of meal prep and (hopefully) picking up a foster dog for the week. I was a guest on another podcast. Could you live on a cruise ship permanently? Some mad hustle of the woman behind BentoBox. The version of this influencer/motorcycle ‘wreck’ ‘story’ is hilarious. Would you eat pickle-flavored ice cream? When is it okay to burn your food on purpose? I hope you’ll check out my foreword in the Legacy cookbook! I also hope you might be able to come listen to me at PechaKucha on September 14th. The week ahead looks fairly calm, which is good.  I’m going to go to my first FUN DXB night on Monday, and am looking forward to networking (and hopefully speaking at a later event).  I’m also (finally!!) going to try Marea, and maybe…

It’s been a busy week in Prague and Brno!  Hubs and I were traveling for Eid and could not have had a better time.  We ate well and stayed in some excellent hotels — I can’t wait to share them with you in some upcoming posts. I… This… Well, I kind of love the thought behind it and would be happy to see this for my next solo meal. At the intersection of life advice and advice for chefs. A new podcast from the team at Eater. Just…an interesting and in-depth read about French fine dining and Michelin. Would you eat a savory popsicle? We haven’t had a microwave in years, but this article goes into why Americans can’t seem to break up with the device. I’m back publishing with JustLuxe. And the week ahead is all about recovery.  Back to the gym, meal prep, and intermittent fasting!  I’m actually…

The past two weeks have been a bit…unique.  I filmed a segment for my first international television show (more details when I can share them).  I was requested to film another segment in the Maldives with another group… I honestly don’t think anything will happen with this, but it’s always nice to be asked (and hey, maybe there’s still a free trip in it for me).  I’m off to Ireland next week for a delightful press trip with the food board, and Hubs and I are looking forward to a trip to Prague for Eid in August (all tips on the city are welcome).  With cutting carbs significantly, along with a lot more exercise, I lost 1.3kgs (and hoping I manage to at least maintain while I’m traveling).  And finally, I still don’t understand why people want to have meetings when a call is perfectly acceptable (and a much less…

Back from a relaxed trip to Zanzibar, and straight into things this week.  I went to the absolutely fantastic Phoenix Social Club (review soon), as well as Martabaan in Abu Dhabi for their launch.  Also, despite my pessimistic thinking, I was accepted to the Google Local Guides Summit later this year — I’m so excited to return! The patriarchy getting involved with first date food. Relevant to my interests: how rose is made. In which I get a shout out on Dubai Eye (but it’s not my episode – thanks, Samer!). Fork calligraphy (you heard what I said). Fixing restaurants from the inside. We finished the first season of CSR of One.  I hope you’ll listen and subscribe! Help Women Rise. Will I see you at the first Eat DXB Talks on Monday night?  Looks like a great line up! This weekend we’re going to the Maroon 5 concert and…
