Oak Room, Abu Dhabi shines.

While staying at the Edition Abu Dhabi, I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to enjoy a meal at Oak Room. Having already heard fabulous things from other foodie friends in Abu Dhabi, I was delighted to check out one of the newest steakhouses in the city, a menu which includes oversight from a well-lauded and internationally known chef, Tom Aikens. After a quick drink at the beautiful Library (located just across the way – plan to have a quick cocktail here if you can), we were warmly greeted and shown inside. The interior of Oak Room immediately passes with the highest of marks. I’m not sure where the contract was signed to say that steakhouses should be done in dark paneling and low lighting, but in the Edition, the concept works. The Grill, Marriott Al Forsan: Protein paradise.

Looking forward to dining with Abu Dhabi friends we hadn’t seen in far too long, anticipation was high for our meal at The Grill. The restaurant — like the majority of the venues at the Marriott Al Forsan — is located on the main floor, to the left of the lobby after the entrance. On arrival, I found the layout spacious and was happy to see modern touches in the form of an open kitchen, private dining room, soaring ceilings, and kitschy black and white photography on the walls. We were greeted warmly and shown to a table overlooking the kitchen, which, turns out quite a bit of protein — including one of the largest cuts in the UAE, the 1200g Tomahawk Chop (priced at a competitive AED475). Butcher & Still: My #1 Restaurant in Abu Dhabi.

Butcher & Still has been on my ‘to dine at’ list (the longest list ever, BTW) for the better part of four months, and I was glad to finally make the visit (sorry, Abu Dhabi, you are sometimes wildly difficult to schedule). Coming off a recent great steak experience (Graze), I’m not sure if I was entirely ready for another boost of protein not even a week later, but these are the things I do for this blog. 😉 As I was explaining to my dining companion, I tend to go into places with relatively low expectations — ready for whatever direction the evening might take (but not prepared to make excuses for anyone).
