Lots to explore in Dubai this time of year, right?  A recent Saturday night found us at the newly launched Mama Zonia.  I’m going to admit, that my visits to Pier 7 have significantly dropped off, mostly because of (what else?) traffic to and from the location.  I never had a chance to visit Cacti (the former version of Mama Zonia), so, really, I have nothing to compare the venue to (except the other restaurants I’ve visited located in Pier 7).  Upon arrival, the interior is done in lush greens and bright jewel tones.  There is a large bar/lounge area, which opens onto an exterior terrace (perfect for these temperate Dubai winter days).  The interior is similar in style to Hotel Cartegena, and I imagine this will be a popular ladies night destination in a short amount of time. Similar to the bright interior of Coya, Bombay Bungalow is a venue that entertains guests before they’ve ever even had a bite to eat. With soaring ceilings, views of The Beach, brilliant blues, quirky portraits, and attentive staff, the rebrand of the former House of Curry is a definite step in the right direction.  There’s not a bad seat in the venue, and for me, I enjoyed the unique mix of building materials, plus a relatively fantastic chandelier.  Always on the lookout for natural light, my dining partner and I grab a spot by the window (also a great place for people watching, should you be interested). I’ve been to Asia Asia two times previously (for drinks only) and thus have never made it past the always packed lounge.  I’ve always been impressed with the decor, and have longingly looked at the menu, but it was only late last week I finally made a reservation. (Honestly, one of the biggest turn offs is getting to Pier 7… I cannot stand Marina traffic and really, for those of you dwelling on this side of town, I have no idea what you do on the weekends).
