When describing where I was going to go for brunch, my aunt (and I) were both confused as to why anyone would name a restaurant after teeth that you lose as a child, but...in the Sunday morning brunch rush, I was unable to get a definitive answer.
I digress.
A very different vibe than my visit to Tavern on South, on a beautiful May morning, I parked and walked over to find a bustling Milktooth. With no tables available (and a party of one), I was fine to take a spare spot at the counter (close to the grill and bar). BTW, there are no reservations, so it's a first come first serve basis (but you can get a drink at the bar and stand outside).
The menu is slightly limited, but highly creative. Going back and forth between sweet and savory, I decided on the PERFECT combination: cranberry walnut & raclette grilled cheese(including Amelia’s bread, local cheese, black truffle honey, sunny local duck egg). I strongly debated getting a Bloody Mary (in which you can add a charcuterie spear - ! - for a mere $3) or springing for a mimosa, but as I was driving, I decided to resist temptation. This might actually be food heaven.
I should be up front here and say that I paid $16 for the pleasure of a cheese toastie...and I think it's justified. The honey added the absolute perfect amount of sweetness to the ooey gooey mess of cheese. Would I do this every weekend if I lived in Indianapolis?
Yes, probably.
Overwhelming hipster vibes aside, I wouldn't hesitate to go back and bring a bigger appetite (and saw potential in a bit of a pub crawl/progressive meal... Repeal I'm looking at you).
I know I missed some good dishes -- what are your favorite? And why isn't Milktooth open for dinner?
