On my way out of Abu Dhabi (after dining at the divine Olives the night previously), I had the great opportunity to stop into Emirati owned Tawa Bakery. While Hubs is not celiac, we do try and avoid gluten, and have done so for years.
Never mind the occasional pizza. Enter, Tawa Bakery, a completely gluten-free restaurant. As in, no gluten, at all, anywhere on the menu. Far better than the interior of Taste Kitchen, Tawa Bakery feels like a chic cafe, and there are fun details everywhere you look (including uniquely recycled chairs).
Although the Eggs Benedict catches my eye, I’m here to sample the bread and so order the French toast (I opt for maple syrup and the additional fresh strawberries). To accompany the meal, I have a pot of tea, as well as a freshly squeezed orange juice. The presentation of the French toast is perfect…but does the taste live up to the plating? Fortunately, it does. With a bit of mixed berries compote and whipped cream, this dish was an absolute treat. Nary a gluten was missed. The bread is light and fluffy, battered in a perfect way to match the tartness of the berries and sweetness of the syrup. My only note would be to consider adding a third piece of bread (although at AED35, the price felt right). Also worth noting for you sleepy heads, the breakfast menu is available all day (hurrah!).
As I drove back to Dubai, I kicked myself for not buying some of the cupcakes (or other desserts) that were available, but I guess I have a great excuse for another visit.
Finally, friends at Tawa, I know you’ve got potential plans to expand in the capital, but how about sharing some of the love with Dubai? 🙂
Usually, I would place the Google maps location in, but the map from the website it too cute not to share:
