Iftar Preview: Azur @ Raffles Dubai.

With Ramadan nearly upon us, many hotels around town run previews of what their Iftar and Suhour menus will be.  Having experienced my share of these meals in my nine years in the region, I have certain expectations.  Although I am not Muslim, I love how this part of the culture is shared throughout the country.  Nearly every employer will plan a company Iftar to bring their teams together and it is a meal to enjoy not solo or as a couple, but among friends and family.  While across town, Raffles has always been one of my favorite properties, but I had not been to Azur previously.

Azur Iftar Raffles

Although I am not fasting, I decide to start my dinner in the traditional way — with a date (although not a romantic one, as Hubs is out of town).  Arabic coffee is also offered, poured into a small cup.

Unlike other buffets, the focus on the meal at Azur is on almost entirely traditional offerings (i.e. no sushi bar).  Each dish was fresh and delicious, but I was also impressed with the creativity of the presentation.  Let’s face it, there are only so many ways a venue can style a buffet and yet, Azur’s take was fun to look at and equally delicious.  My favorites included the cauliflower in tahini sauce (I literally cannot get enough of this dish) and the camel ice cream (!).  All things being equal, what sets Azur apart is the service.  Honestly, I believe the entire front of house and F&B team at Raffles was on hand for the preview and I felt very welcomed.  I thought the gesture was genuine and highly professional.

As I seem to keep mentioning, we are spoiled in Dubai, so while there are plenty of Iftar options during the holy month, I think Iftar at Azur would fit the bill quite nicely.  If I had any note for the management, it would be to add some live music, but that’s only my opinion.

Shhh! I snuck upstairs before the start of the buffet for a sundowner at Tomo. #thatviewtho

Do you have a ‘go to’ Iftar location, or do you prefer to try many different options?

Cost for Iftar at Azur, AED185 (sunset to 9PM).

A to Za’atar was a guest of Azur for the Iftar preview.  This review reflects the Iftar menu specifically and is not indicative of other offers in the restaurant.  Reviews are my own…just ask my husband.

  1. Thank you so much for mentioning our Camel Milk Gelato as one of your favorite at the Azur buffet! I hope you could taste all flavors available. Did you have a favorite among Mastic, Dates, Baklava and Honey Saffron?
